Adjective

Adjectives describe nouns. A guid wey tae decide if ye hae an adjective is tae play 'The minister's cat' wi it:

The minister's cat is a bonnie cat.Bonnie is an adjective
The minister's cat is a braw cat.Braw is an adjective.
The minster's cat is a frae cat.Frae isnae an adjective.

Thon test works up tae a pynt but ye can say:

  • The minister's cat is a hoose cat (gin it's nae an ootdoor cat).
  • The minister's cat is mither cat (gin its had kittlins).
  • An we ken fine that 'hoose' an 'mither' are baith nouns. Sae we need anither test as weel. Ye can yaise the 'verra' test as weel.

The minister's cat is a verra bonnie cat. Noo we're shair that bonnie is an adjective.
The minister's cat is a verra braw cat. Noo we're shair that braw is an adjective.
The minister's cat is a verra hoose cat. That's nae richt.
The minister's cat is a verra mither cat . That's nae richt.

Noo you can decide if thir wirds are adjectives:

Muin, black, sleekit, daft, can, kind.
